PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

RotaryMoE-R_CMYK-C.png

We are “People of Action” creating change in the world and saving lives every day.

Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. In more than 200 countries worldwide, approximately 1.4 million Rotarians, in more than 34,000 Rotary clubs develop community service projects that address many of today's most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence.  The world's Rotary clubs are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds.

Rotary District 7980 covers the four southern counties of Connecticut and is made up of 57 Rotary Clubs with almost 2,000 members. From Greenwich to Stonington, we have engaged extensively in service projects throughout our history. One of the most profound service projects undertaken by the District last year was the Million Mask Challenge Tour, which delivered over 5 million PPE face masks to medical personnel, first responders, front-line worker and others in need across New England from October 2020 through March 2021 – the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, the District will partner up with its neighboring District 7890 in Northern Connecticut and Western Massachusetts to deliver a District Day of Service throughout the entire State of Connecticut to address local and regional community needs across the state.

The Rotary Club of Ledyard strives to be a force for good in Southeastern CT.  We support youth in our community through the Wes Johnson Scholarship for graduating seniors, sponsoring high schoolers to “RYLA”, a youth leader development program, and Dictionaries for 3rd graders. We provide broader community support to the Linda C. Davis Food Pantry, Habitat for Humanity of Southeastern Connecticut, Homeless Hospitality Center, RT-12 Adopt-a-Highway, and many many more. We have constructed and donated a gazebo to the Town and a safe set of stairs from Ledyard Senior Housing to the Senior Center.  We are indeed People of Action in Ledyard.

Interested in giving back and creating an impact in our community and around the world? If so, we encourage you to connect, engage and visit our weekly club meetings to get a taste of who we are, and how you can join us!
