Ledyard, Connecticut USA,
October 20, 2005 -
The Rotary Club of Ledyard presented 24 smoke
detectors to Karen Goetchius of the Ledyard Public Health Nursing
Service on Thursday, October 20, 2005 at its weekly meeting at the
Groton Motor Inn.
Bill Stone, club president, commented that the
detectors were to answer a request by the nursing service to provide
aid to our senior citizens and special needs populations.
The Nursing service checks homes when they
visit with those under their care and if they are lacking a working
smoke detector one if provided for the home. The detectors are
installed by either the homeowner or the local fire departments if
the home owner is unable to do the installation. The nursing
service had used up their supply of smoke detectors and was in need
of additional resources. Rotarian Sean McGuckin, retired fire chief
in Gales Ferry headed the effort to acquire the smoke detectors.
Said McGuckin “if our effort helps to save just one life it is money
well spent.”
